The latest news from Worthing First....

The Worthing Town Centre Initiative are thrilled that the Birdman will be landing in Worthing on 5th 12/05/2008

You will have seen the publicity that the Bognor Birdman can no longer be held in Bognor due to the shortening of their pier and that Worthing and Brighton have both been negotiating with the Bognor Birdman Trust to host the event.  With fantastic support from Worthing Borough Council, West Sussex County Council and Sussex Police, Worthing has been able to secure this world recognised event for the Town.

The core costs to stage the event have been met with contributions from Town Centre businesses and West Sussex County Council County but to make this event really spectacular we are calling on all Worthing businesses to help really get the event off the ground !

The event will deliver thousands of visitors to Worthing over the weekend of the event but it will also gain national and international publicity – just look at the press coverage it has gained over the last 2 weeks.  All this publicity will help to bring people to the town independently of the event and will help to raise the Profile of Worthing.  The Bognor Birdman Trust estimates that over £250,000 of publicity is achieved at no cost from the event.

The Town Centre Initiative, as the new organisers of the event, would like to invite everyone to get involved.  The TCI is a Community Interest Company and we would like to continue the tradition of this event bringing the community together.

We will be putting supporter packs together over the next week or so but if you would like to contribute in any way please get in touch.  While we are still seeking sponsors to fund other activities such as stunt planes and video recordings etc to boost the event any offers of help would be much appreciated.  If you would like to advertise on screens, banners or brochures; or if you can offer any services “in kind” in return for publicity; or even if you, or any of your staff, can help out on the day then please get in touch.   Please call 01903 203252 and speak to Sharon, Sue or Tracy and tell us what you would like to do or eMail us at Sharon@worthingtowncentre.co.uk.

We hope you are excited as we are about bringing this event to Worthing and hope you will embrace it so we can all show the World what a wonderful town Worthing is !!
