Rumour or Fact - Asda after Norwich Union site...? 02/07/2008

If this was to go ahead ,as the infrastructure stands at the moment, travelling along the A27 and A24 will be a total nightmare unless a relief road was built to serve the site with it perhaps joining up at the Lyons Farm Estate and thereafter filtering to meet the A27.

Potentially a relief road along those lines could provide for an opportunity for the delevopment of the East Worthing Access Road  which apparently has been on the cards for several years.

On the jobs front whilst potentially more jobs will likely be available these in the main will in all probability in the region of the National Minimum Wage.

I would be concerned for Local Trade generally being supressed by another big player ( with the finacial muscle of Walmart) offering everything from Baked Beans to Clothes and perhaps Petrol,on the outskirts of Worthing.
In the event that this site is up for grabs planning consent must be conditional on the following:

  • Provision of good transport links bypassing the A27
  • An integrated transport hub to include a park and ride facility
  • A Business / Enterprise Gateway much along the lines of those at the Ropetackle in Shoreham

What's your views on all that...?
