Let us know by e-mail to birdman@worthingfirst.org.uk and we'll post it here. Having been involved in both the run-up to Birdman, and over the weekend of the event, I am so very proud to be part of such a successful event. The weekend was fantastic, the buzz, the crowds, everything. Saturday morning, in particular, sun shining, it was a beautiful day. While on the pier I must have spoke to a hundred people - of which all were so excited about the weekends events. A lot of them, surprisingly to me, on holiday here. Sunday was very much a disapointment, but we all stayed positive until the call was made at approx ten to twelve. An inevitable call - I was up there, on the launch platform, minutes earlier, battling against the horrific winds. That, and the huge waves lapping the top of the lower decking, cancellation of the Sunday event was unavoidable. I understand it's normal to close the pier anyway, when the tide is coming in at 6 1/2 meters. One big wave will whip you into the sea. Also, with weather like that, yes you could still 'fly' - but the rescue boats aren't going to get you, cause it's too rough. The event team were awesome - Sharon (Town Centre Initiative), Wendy (WBC), Kieth (Visit Worthing) and Jason (Hot Dog Media), Derek, Anne also Jim and Alan (Leaderboard) and Jamie (NJS - my new scaffolding mate) - Well done everyone. And thank you to The Bognor Birdman Trust, for giving us and helping us pull off a historic event. Roll on 2009. I must say, my involvement has certainly made me see the might that is nature in such a different way. The power, waves, wind, rain - respect it - you can't stop it. There's nothing you can do.
