Parking - have your say 03/09/2008

Following a very positive meeting of West Sussex County Council, Worthing Borough Council and NCP Services, along with Worthing First, Worthing Chamber, Town Centre Initiative and FSB reprensentatives, you now have the opportunity to make changes.

At the meeting held on Thursday 4th Sept at Worthing Town Hall, Worthing First presented the current findings from the Parking Poll which has been running on the website for 5 weeks. Where although the majority of businesses in Worthing have made clear that the problems with parking in Worthing are down to a combination of the parking bays, the parking attendants AND the NCP car parks. The second most popular option was that much of Worthing's parking problems are directly associated with the NCP car parks themselves. Not the on street parking.

These results were very encouraging for the group, as it helped to target any future action needed. The NCP car parks.

Later in the meeting, Chris Barrett of WSCC explained that WSCC and WBC were carrying out a review of the loading bays, loading bans and yellow lines thoughout the town and they'd like to know what YOU think - click HERE to read more about you can make a difference.

A parking attendant (now known as Civil Enforcement Officer) was present to show the group exactly how a PCN ticket was raised and explained which contravention attracted which grace periods (which can be viewed here).

It was decided that between the Business organisations present that a Parking Seminar be held, where Worthing businesses are invited to hear the developments of the on-street parking, be educated on how and why the tickets are issued, what dispensations are available for local businesses, and we can all help make things better.

Worthing First's advise for anyone who recieves a ticket and believes that the ticket was issued incorrectly, is, appeal it. Don't just accept it. Appeal it, in accordance to the back of the PCN, in writing.

Over 85% of appeals are granted. If the ticket was issued incorrectly and you appeal, if you are in the right, you WILL win.

In a bid to help the Worthing business community, Worthing First is happy to help bsuiness through the appeals process, and if you are in the right, you will see justice.
