Worthing Business Awards 2007 - a huge success 08/10/2007

On Saturday night Worthing’s famous Pavilion Theatre was the perfect venue for a very special event – the very first Worthing Business Awards, organised by Worthing First.  250 people turned out to celebrate and honour the sheer hard work, talent and determination of the very best businesses in Worthing. It wasn’t all about big business either.  Winners were selected from a shortlist which included brand new micro businesses, charity organisations and new technology gurus - right through to restaurants and established retailers.

What was unusual about these awards was that the winners were voted for by those who matter the most to them – their customers.

The evening began with a champagne reception in the Denton Lounge, where guests were entertained by an impressive student jazz band from Durrington High School. Dinner followed in the Pavilion where The Mayor of Worthing, Councillor Dr. Heather Mercer, welcomed everyone and declared the very first business awards dinner well and truly launched.  The Just Move it Dance troupe then hit the stage and wowed the audience with some very cool street dance moves as dinner was served.

As the dancers left the stage to enthusiastic applause, following an exhilarating routine, Ian Hart - our familiar and much loved local radio celebrity - moved smoothly into his role of the evening behind the podium, as Master of Ceremonies and Host.

Once dinner was over the main event began and the winners were finally announced.
15 awards were collected by the delighted winners, with one company winning not one but two awards.  Geoff Bullen, founder and Chairman of GB Electronics and his team won Worthing Business of the Year Award and the Small Business of the Year Award and put it all down to his ‘incredible team of very clever people.

Summing up the night, Mayor of Worthing, Cllr. Dr. Heather Mercer said: ‘When you see the sheer creativity and dedication of the business community in Worthing it makes you proud to live in this town. We have real talent in our business community and, through their contribution to our economy, the possibility of building a strong and positive future for the next generation is guaranteed. This business awards evening was the best I have ever attended.  The organisation of the event and the compèring were par excellence. I should also like to thank the business sponsors for making sure that new businesses in Worthing can be justly rewarded for their innovation and creativity.’
